Nglipar 1 : First Timers

Yesterday's journey to the primary health centre (PUSKESMAS) my group was assigned to, was not an easy one. I had severe vertigo the whole way. The bumpy, winding roads weren't of any help at all. It was totally bad show, i tell ya. I was thinking ways to divert the vomiting center in my brain from being stimulated. The effect was so great that i still can feel the ground moving sideways a day after.

But it was a great experience. We went in looking as interns and assigned to our separate post. Everyone were posted to the emergency department, pharmacy, ward, policlinic and maternity room respectively, one at each post.

The ward was full of patients at that time, leaving no beds empty. We mingled and perform physical examination on the patients. One thing about the patients and people here, they are just too polite for words. They get all excited when we came in, and with open arms, allowed us to check them. Some of them even said how happy they are to contribute in our learning process while some joked saying we came to the right place since all of them are "berpenyakit" here. Haha.

The scene here is way different from the ones we see back home. The patients really respect the doctor, not only as their caregiver. But also as a friend. They find the comfort in the sincerity of the doctor, and vice versa. The condition of the ward was terrible, to tell the truth. And i admire their modesty.

It has been a great day. And a totally ironic one.
How can you feel so incredibly belonged talking to people you just met and have a totally different background than yours?

:)
