3 people

3 interesting characters i met this week (and probably will remain in my memory forever):

A superbly knowledgeable doctor, who practically listed down ALL the drugs needed to manage patient with heart failure in mere seconds. A highly motivated and charismatic person. She depicts how a women can really stand out in a sea of male doctors who practically rule the Cardiology Department. She's cold in some ways, wanting things to be done the right way which is her way. Kinda envied her charisma.

A frail looking grandmother, who walked all the way from Mirota to Amplaz selling keropok and pisang salai. She is 90+ years old. Everyday, she traveled the merciless distance to make a living. God knows what happened to her family. She is too cute for words and eager to learn about life beyond Yogya. She yearns to perform her hajj, but of course, tak mampu. I really love talking to her. She asked me a lot of things. About Malaysia, my parents etc. She gave me some keropoks for free and asked me to share with my housemates (how selfless). Before we part ways, she asked me to send her salam to my parents. And told me that she will always pray for my family. I teared up a little. Such a big impression it has made on my life despite the fact that we were perfect strangers who happen to meet on coincidence.

An amazingly stubborn cab driver. Who blames Malaysia for almost everything that happens between the two "also stubborn" nations. He said that we are "malings" who stole almost everything from other people and "penjahats" who could care less about respecting the Indonesians in Malaysia. I got scared in the cab, but also felt the need to explain something to him. Which I did. He thankfully (and suprisingly) understoood, and at the end, became less emotional. With a little bit of heart, and patience; nothing will disrupt your mind from thinking straight.

This week has really been, something.

So, who did you meet today?

saya suka entry ni! ;)
last time mase dekat sendowo, orang jumpa sorang nenek tua yg kutip barang-barang terbuang dekat tong sampah. masa lalu dekat lorong toko bali tu, barang-barang dia jatuh sebab beg plastik yang dia bwk robos (ade ke perkataan ni?). orang tolong angkatkan barang-barang dia tapi dia halang. dia cakap 'ga usah sayang' banyak2 kali evrytime orang cuba angkat barang-barang tu masuk plastik lain sambil berulang-ulang kali bilang 'gapapa, bu'sambil air mata da bergenang. dia rasa bersalah mungkin sebab some strangers angkatkan barang-barang dia tapi kite sume akan rasa double triple bersalah kalo tak tolong nenek tu. bila da selesia, dia berterima kasih yg xterkira, mcm kite da buat something yg besar sgt utk dia, pdhal tlg angkatkan barang yg jatuh je.sometimes, we unconsciously see some strangers as our family members, seeking our help when they really need one. and that, is a good thing. ;)
malina, keep your heart warm bcoz you have it already.

Mariam: Thank you dear. I hope so too. Tapi mmg seriously amazed la with the doctor. hehe. :)

Ain: haha alaaa really. Apart from the culture here yang people sangat2 polite, i also think they are humbled by their weakness/disabilities etc. Just treat someone kindly and with compassion. No matter where we go. :)

hehe go go ain! mari kita maintain bersemangat dalam 3rd year yang penuh field work ini! :D

well.. i meet a lot of people everyday. but the thing about India is, language is a huge barrier. sometimes you feel like talking to the locals(especially in the hosptal). but its not always easy when u cant communicate well with them. well as for me, rarely talk to strangers.. or maybe they dont want to talk to me.
believe me dear,u are gifted. you're a wonderful person with a big heart. take care.

Alaa dear, thank u. :')

My lecturer kata, sedangkan orang-orang eropah/amerika/etc datang & masuk kampung-kampung Yogya boleh interact with people here thru games, body languange etc, ni pulak kita. (malaysia-indonesia kan satu rumpun; so konon nk motivate kitorang la) kehkeh.

As for your place, Boleh je..languange might be a barrier but, as quoted by Mark Twain, one of my fav quotes,

"Kindness is a language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see".

So don't stop trying k. hee.
